Abstract:
The Belt and Road Initiative has provided an important opportunity for deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Singapore. From the perspective of industrial competitiveness, the study analyzes the current situation of bilateral trade and carries out an empirical analysis of the competitiveness and complementarity index of bilateral trade between China and Singapore by using the United Nations commodity trade UNCOMTRADE data of 2009-2018. The results are as follows:bilateral trade between China and Singapore is developing rapidly and China has long been in a surplus position; the commodity structure of trade between China and Singapore is relatively concentrated; the competitiveness and complementarity of bilateral trade coexist and bilateral trade still has great potential and space. Finally, the study proposes to take the significant opportunity brought by China-Singapore Free Trade Zone and the Belt and Road Initiative to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, optimize industrial structure, achieve differentiated export products, and explore a new mode of bilateral international production capacity cooperation.
