| Energy efficiency research is of great importance in promoting high-quality economic development, boosting energy efficiency, improving environment and achieving the "double carbon" goal. This paper highlights the current state of research on energy efficiency ranging from disciplines, researchers, institutes, keywords to timeline by enlisting the well-chosen 785 academic journal papers titled "energy efficiency" between 2000 and 2021 from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) with the tool of Citespace. These papers are all published in most authoritative journals like Core Journals of China and Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) including its extended versions. The findings are as follows:The number of publications regarding energy efficiency displays an overall upward-steady-downward trend involving a wide range of disciplines with macroeconomic management and sustainable development topping the list. Collaboration exists, but tends to be loosely structured between researchers and institutes. Cluster analysis suggests the three focuses of research:measure, strategic context and influencing factors. The research has undergone four stages of talking points, each displaying diversifying characteristics with technology heterogeneity, innovation-driven development, eco-efficiency, spatial econometrics, and dynamic change being the current research hotspots. In the final analysis, we suggest redoubling the research efforts, strengthening the cooperation between institutes and researchers and renewing research methodology and practice. |
