Abstract: |
Herodotus is the founder of Western history and his History is the earliest complete history book. Herodotus insisted on the critical spirit when selecting and analyzing history materials and explained history through history itself, and showed the spirit of humanism. Influenced by the characteristics of his living periods and the tradition of ancient Greek culture, there are lots of supernatural factors in his book History. Herodotus believed the existence of gods, and thought that gods could affect and even control humans, and that Gods decision of humans destiny could not be changed. However, the History also admitted the value of humans. In his description of some important events, Herodotus always weakened the role of gods and emphasized the subjectivity of humans. |
