| 翟理斯寓华20余年,一直致力于汉学研究和中国语言、文学和文化的传播,其所译《聊斋志异》是英译本中的经典之作。翟理斯译本对《聊斋志异》在西方世界的传播有着重要意义,为西方读者更好地了解中国文化提供了一条可行路径。通过研究分析他对原文的选取、译介语言的使用、注释的使用,能够看到翟理斯译本呈现出较为客观与真实的中国形象；但受其身份、所处时代和思想所限,其中仍不免带有译者主观的想象与对中国文化的曲解。 |

| Herbert Allen Giles,living in China for more than 20 years,had been committed to sinology and the spread of Chinese language,literature and culture. His translation of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio is a classic English version, which has been exerting influence on the spread of the Chinese novel in the western world and offering a feasible path for western readers to better understand Chinese culture.Through analyses of Giles 's selection of the original text,usage of the translation language and annotations,it can be concluded that his version presents a relatively objective and true image of China.But constrained by his identity, the living era, and his ideology, the translation inevitably connotates his subjective imagination and misinterpretation of Chinese culture. |
