Abstract:
In the era of the digital economy, the low-carbon transformation of the traditional energy industry is of great significance for energy security, high-quality economic development, and environmental protection. Exploring the inherent correlation between the level of digital empowerment and the efficiency of low-carbon transformation of the traditional energy industry can provide theoretical support for the high-quality industrial development. Based on this, the entropy weight-TOPSIS method and the Super-SBM model are employed to comprehensively evaluate the digital empowerment level of 30 provinces in China and measure the efficiency of the low-carbon transformation in traditional energy industries at the provincial level. Furthermore, a quantile regression model is applied to examine the impact of digital empowerment on the efficiency of low-carbon transformation, while an endogeneity test and a robustness test are conducted to verify the reliability of the empirical results. The research findings show that there exist significant regional disparities in the level of digital empowerment, with the eastern region markedly outperforming the central and western regions; also the efficiency of low-carbon transformation in the traditional energy industry exhibits pronounced regional disparities, with the eastern region significantly surpassing other regions; and the impact of digital empowerment is nonlinear but characterized with substantial regional differences.
